Thanks for taking a look at what I have to offer you and your child. When I first had my two children I was employed as a CAD designer and I had to find suitable Daycare to leave my two children at. At that time just like today there were two alternatives - Home based or a Childcare center. I explored both and my main concerns were I wanted a place that was very clean and well taken care of and I wanted to form some relationship with the person taking care of my child. With the larger centers I was concerned that with all the children that they may not get the attention for learning that I was looking for. I also did not care for the classroom type atmosphere versus the more comfortable home atmosphere. Another concern was the person taking care of my children would change depending on their days on at work and if they quit then I had to hope the next caretaker that was hired would take good care of my children also. I found a home based business and I brought my kids there until they turned school age.
Let me tell you a little about myself before going forward. I came to the United States 40 years ago from Quito, the capital city of Ecuador. I studied teaching in college and was employed as a first grade teacher for two years. My family was about 50% relocated in the United States already and I had the opportunity to join them here. I came to this country in the early 1980's. Because of the language I, of course, could not go back to teaching so I had to start all over with whatever job I could find. I started as a assembler in a manufacturing plant. Through time and job changes and my ability as a artist I was able to get the opportunity to start doing drafting work in one of the facilities I was working in. The change over from hand drawn drafting to Computer drafting took place and I spent many years as a CAD Designer. The company was a large family owned business which was in business for many years. Unfortunately the owner died unexpectedly and the business was sold to a large corporation. A few years later they transferred the business to another area in the country and all employees got laid off. At that time I had to find another job and when I asked myself what I wanted to do I came back to thinking about teaching children again. That's when the idea of starting a daycare came into being.
In forming Somerset Preschool daycare I wanted to provide the best in both center based and home based daycare. Incorporating the home-like look and comfortable feeling of a home, with the teaching and training of a center and of course the cleanest and safest environment I could provide. I have been in business since 2005 and have taken care of many children from birth to school years. I am of course state licensed and CPR certified which includes a FBI and DCF background check for myself and all adults living in the home over 16 years of age. I can provide references if needed and you can call the Daycare info line which is a state run service that can provide information on my daycare. I am recertified every four years and I receive a state inspection about every two years.
I provide breakfast, lunch and 2 snacks a day with all drinks included in the price for non-infant children. Parents will have to provide formula, diapers and wipes. We are open from 7:00am to 5:30pm Monday through Friday and are located at 14 Somerset Lane in North Milford in the Great River development. I have an 800 square foot area separate from my main home with its own separate entrance and bathroom just for the children. It is set up with a comfortable atmosphere for playing and learning. I have set times for eating, learning, playing and rest to get them used to a school schedule in their later years. I do my best in preparing them for their school years with learning the basics needed for school. I have had great feedback from many parents of children that when they went for their kindergarten screening the teachers commented on how well they did on their exam and they were more than ready to enter kindergarten.
I have an outdoor play area which we use in good weather. Most activity is on a completely vinyl deck which is free of splinters and pressure treated chemicals. It is a special decking which does not get hot in the sun so it will not burn your child's skin. I provide outdoor toys for them to share. There are large umbrellas to shade them from the sun when it is too strong and as a special feature we have an outdoor fan and misting system to keep the air cool around them when they play outside in the hot summer days. There is also a large swing set area that the children also enjoy to use. As with inside I am always with them to supervise them outside.
My state license number is #53525 and you can call the daycare info line at 211 on your phone to check my background. Please have fun looking through my pictures and I hope to hear from you and your child so I can answer any other questions you may have. Remember even if the daycare is full at the time you call, the current children's parents lives are always changing and openings could pop up at any time. So please call and make an appointment to come by to see everything for yourself and if you would like to be contacted when an opening comes up.
